
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is saying utility companies’ substations are the subject of recent copper thefts.
Thieves are reportedly cutting security gate locks and removing copper wire along with fixtures from the stations.
Four separate incidents are currently under investigation by Sheriff’s detectives. In those incidents, the suspect(s) stole from NYSEG and Village of Springville substations.
The incidents occurred on October 3rd and 10th and November 1st. Deputies say the suspect(s) have stolen $14,000 worth of materials.
